📝 About me:
I'm a commercial pilot by qualification; I never thought I’d end up working at A.N.R. Robinson International Airport Tower as an Air Traffic Controller even more so coming from a background of Finance and Hospitality. I would listen to liveatc.net and hear controllers giving flights their oceanic clearances and never once thought how does one become an Air Traffic Controller? All I wanted to do was fly planes but interview after interview and nothing. I was at the barber one day flipping through the newspapers and saw the advertisement for ATC training. I applied for it, got in and the rest is history. It’s been over 5 years and I've enjoyed every minute of it. My mantra is never give up. Use your failures in life to make steppingstones towards your ultimate goal.
We asked Lincoln what he loves most about his job.
ATC keeps you on your toes and that’s what I love about it. It keeps you sharp and alert. You’d be surprised how one simple incident can lead to multiple delays. In addition to that, I would say I love the view. Robinson Tower, I must confess, has an awesome vantage point. I think everyone who comes up here is taken aback by the views especially on a very clear day when you can see the actual green on the north coast of Trinidad, the turquoise waters of the Buccoo Reef and even as far as Venezuela. I love the interaction with the pilots especially hailing out those that I know (not gonna names but would just say “wahz d scene??”). On occasion I would go down close as permissible to the runway to take videos of planes taking off and landing (the heavies are the best). Just watching these huge machines take flights is awe inspiring. Lastly but certainly not the least, I must say I love my co-workers. Wouldn’t ask for another group to work with.
